Drilling Co. Off Hook Over Platform Helicopter Crash

Law360, New York (June 10, 2009, 12:00 AM ET) -- In a dispute over a helicopter crash on board a W&T Offshore Inc. oil platform, a federal appeals court has upheld a lower court's ruling that a contract for helicopter services to oil platforms is not by nature a maritime contract.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit on Tuesday affirmed the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana’s decision on the case’s contract claims, though it reversed and remanded tort claims in the suit.
