High Court Won’t Hear Cablevision Copyright Spat

Law360, New York (June 29, 2009, 12:00 AM ET) -- The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected a bid to hear a case brought by major television networks and movie studios that accused Cablevision Systems Corp.’s next-generation television recording device of breaching copyright protections.

The decision by the high court on Monday against taking up the case allows Cablevision to launch its new remote storage digital video recorder system, which provides TV viewers the freedom to record episodes and watch them at their convenience without having to sit through commercials, as early as this year.
