Mazda Preemption Case Could Expand Car Co. Liability

Law360, New York (June 10, 2010, 1:20 PM ET) -- When the U.S. Supreme Court decides a case against Mazda Motor of America Inc. over a death allegedly caused by the lack of a shoulder strap in a minivan, it could put automakers on the hook for a wide range of state law claims that courts have long deemed preempted by federal regulation, experts say.
