High Court Takes On Database Copyright Case

Law360, New York (March 02, 2009, 12:00 AM ET) -- The U.S. Supreme Court agreed on Monday to hear arguments about whether to reinstate an $18 million settlement in a class action copyright lawsuit by freelance writers against a group of database publishers, after a federal appeals court vacated the settlement on the grounds that the judge who approved it lacked jurisdiction.

The Supreme Court agreed to address the question of whether copyright law restricts the subject matter jurisdiction of the federal courts over copyright infringement actions.
