YouTube Ordered To Pay $1.6M+ To Songwriters

Law360, New York (May 13, 2009, 12:00 AM ET) -- As YouTube LLC and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers prepare to duke it out in court over a final license fee agreement, a federal judge has ruled that the video sharing Web site must pay songwriters more than $1.6 million in interim royalty fees.

In a partly redacted order Wednesday, Judge William C. Conner of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York said YouTube has to pay ASCAP $1.4 million in interim fees from 2005 through 2008 and $70,000...
