Insurer Told To Hand Over Docs In Asbestos Spat

Law360, New York (May 26, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal judge has ordered Aviva Insurance Co. of Canada to produce redacted and supposedly confidential documents outlining reserve funds it held for The Flintkote Co., a bankrupt asbestos-mining company suing the insurer to recover for asbestos-related personal injury suits.

Judge Marilyn Hall Patel ruled in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California on Tuesday, deciding the insurance company could withhold its reinsurance policies, which are not relevant to the case, but would have to turn over the redacted papers in discovery....
