DOC Takes First Step In Smart Grid Standards Plan

Law360, New York (June 18, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Commerce has released a report setting out top priorities for the development of new architecture and technical standards for a U.S. smart grid, including crafting communication protocols and a method for devising a common pricing model.

The nearly 300-page report, completed by the DOC's National Institute of Standards and Technology and released Thursday, is the first step in a three-part plan designed to accelerate the process of developing needed standards to make a smart grid work.
