Top U.K. IP Firm Launches Spin-Off To Get Around Rule

Law360, New York (March 9, 2004, 12:00 AM EST) -- The top patent and trademark firm in the U.K. has spun off a sister firm to avoid a quirky U.K. rule that prevents intellectual property firms from practicing every aspect of IP law under one roof.

Marks & Clerk Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys, a firm with 14 offices with about 80 partners and 450 staff, has created the new entity, Marks & Clerk Solicitors, to get around U.K. rules that limit the scope of the practice of a patent and trademark firm.
