Boom For Patent Applications In China

Law360, New York (March 25, 2004, 12:00 AM EST) -- Patent applications are rising sharply in China amid growing industry awareness of the need for intellectual property protection, China’s State Intellectual Property Office said.

The past four years have seen a million patent applications lodged, equivalent to the number tabled from 1985 to 2000. The state agency received 308,487 patent applications in 2003 alone, an increase of more than 20% over the previous year.
