Steinbeck Heirs To Appeal Copyright Dispute

Law360, New York (November 18, 2009, 2:09 PM ET) -- Thomas Steinbeck, son of famed author John Steinbeck, and Blake Smyle, daughter of the writer's son John Steinbeck IV, intend to appeal a federal judge's dismissal of their copyright and related claims against the estate of the author's third wife.

According to a stipulation filed Monday in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, the appeal — initially lodged in April — must be taken up before Jan. 6.
