Fed. Circ. Affirms Sony Win In Optical Disc Patent Suit

Law360, New York (December 15, 2009, 6:13 PM EST) -- A federal appeals court has affirmed a lower court ruling that a Sony Corp. subsidiary did not infringe a patent owned by Intellectual Science & Technology Inc. covering an apparatus for reading computer optical discs that reduces the role of magnetic disk drives.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled Tuesday that the record disclosed no more than an unsupported conclusion of infringement by Sony Electronics Inc. that was not sufficient to raise a genuine issue of material fact.
