DOJ Slams Oneworld Alliance Antitrust Immunity Bid

Law360, New York (December 22, 2009, 5:39 PM ET) -- The U.S. Department of Justice has blasted British Airways PLC, American Airlines Inc. and Iberia Group's attempt to have their trans-Atlantic Oneworld Alliance declared immune from antitrust laws, saying the airlines have come up with no evidence that immunity is required to achieve the alliance's purported benefits.

The airlines' proposed agreements, currently up for Department of Transportation approval, would result in competitive harm on certain trans-Atlantic routes serving 2.5 million passengers annually, the DOJ said Tuesday.
