Google Defends Book Settlement Ahead Of Hearing

Law360, New York (February 12, 2010, 2:30 PM ET) -- Ahead of a fairness hearing set for Thursday on the updated settlement over Google Inc.'s plans to create a massive digital library, Google is fighting back against critics, saying the settlement ultimately promotes the creation and distribution of books.

In a 67-page brief filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on Thursday, Google argued that the revised settlement agreement will ensure that rare books that otherwise would be available only to a limited few will be accessible to the public....
