Medtronic Sues Bovie Over Surgical Device Patent

Law360, New York (June 9, 2010, 1:34 PM EDT) -- Medtronic Inc. has sued Bovie Medical Corp., alleging that one of the rival medical implement maker's lines of products infringes a patent for a device used to stop bleeding in surgery.

Medtronic and patent licensee Salient Surgical Technologies Inc. filed suit Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware.

According to the complaint, Medtronic granted Salient an exclusive worldwide license in 1999 to any patents issuing from a then-pending patent application for the technology at issue.
