Hot Tub Control Maker Slaps Rival With Antitrust Suit

Law360, New York (July 6, 2010, 1:14 PM EDT) -- Newport Controls LLC has accused rival hot tub control systems maker Balboa Instruments Inc. of unfairly using its market dominance and the threat of patent litigation to thwart would-be competitors.

Balboa has manipulated its 75 percent share of the market for electronic control systems to pressure hot tub manufacturers to avoid purchasing components from other companies, according to a complaint Newport filed Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
