Asia Closing The Patent Gap

Law360, New York (February 12, 2007, 12:00 AM ET) -- For the third consecutive year, Korea, China and Japan have outshone the West with record growth in patent applications, according to the World Intellectual Property Organization.

While the U.S. continues to top the list of patent-happy countries, with just under 50,000 applications, inventors from northeast Asia are rapidly closing the gap, representing over a quarter of all international filings under the U.N. body’s Patent Cooperation Treaty last year.
