Gas Chief Sure Of Merger Despite Antitrust Concerns

Law360, New York (March 5, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- The chief of the fifth largest natural gas distributor in the U.S. said he remained confident of closing a merger deal with National Grid PLC midyear, despite criticism of the transaction by New York’s utilities regulator.

Speaking at a conference in London Monday, U.S. KeySpan Corp. CEO Robert Catell said he planned to rebut comments made by staff at the state’s Public Service Commission (PSC) that the $7.3 billion deal would decrease competition, increase prices and threaten service reliability.
