Roche To Pay Chiron $78M To Settle Patent Dispute

Law360, New York (September 12, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Swiss drug maker F. Hoffmann-La Roche will pay U.S. biotech company Chiron Corp. $78 million to settle a dispute over licensing fees and royalties related to nucleic acid testing methods for HIV.

Under the terms of the settlement agreement, Chiron will receive the lump-sum payment in lieu of royalties after Jan. 1, 2005, and will retain all funds paid to it by Roche while the matter was in dispute, the companies said.
