FDA Tackles Food Safety As Funding Remains Uncertain

Law360, New York (January 4, 2011, 7:06 PM EST) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has started work implementing a sweeping new food safety bill that President Barack Obama signed into law Tuesday, while controversy over funding for the $1.4 billion measure continues to swirl.

U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius highlighted the importance of funding in a conference call with reporters Monday amid warnings from Republicans that the measure would face scrutiny when lawmakers return to session Wednesday.
