For-Profit Colleges Sue Over GAO Fraud Claims

Law360, New York (February 3, 2011, 2:32 PM EST) -- A lobbying group for for-profit colleges has sued the U.S. government, alleging that a federal report accusing the colleges of fraud and overcharging the government was riddled with errors and caused the institutions significant financial damage.

In a complaint filed Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, the Coalition for Educational Success claims the U.S. Government Accountability Office used substandard research techniques to buttress a predetermined conclusion — that for-profit colleges used fraudulent marketing to lure students.
