Apple Fires Back At Microsoft Over 'App Store' Mark

Law360, New York (March 3, 2011, 4:32 PM EST) -- Apple Inc. shot back Monday at Microsoft Corp.'s bid to block it from securing the “App Store” name as a trademark, arguing the majority of the public associates the term exclusively with the Apple brand.

In an opposition brief filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s trademark trial and appeal board, Apple disputed Microsoft's claim that the phrase was too generic to warrant a trademark, comparing the current situation with Microsoft's bid to register its Windows mark.
