Law360, New York (March 18, 2011, 1:57 PM ET) -- Sen. Herb Kohl, D-Wis., reintroduced legislation Thursday requiring judges to weigh public health and safety concerns before sealing legal agreements and settlements in product liability suits.
S. 623, the Sunshine in Litigation Act, was drafted in response to dozens of cases in which sealed court settlements concealed critical hazards and threats from the public, contributing to additional accidents, fatalities and injuries, according to Kohl.
