Md. House OKs Bill To Limit Marcellus Shale Drilling

Law360, New York (March 23, 2011, 7:12 PM EDT) -- The Maryland House of Delegates passed a measure Wednesday that would restrict natural gas drilling in the Marcellus Shale in western Maryland pending a two-year study of potential environmental and public health hazards posed by hydraulic fracturing operations there.

House delegates voted 98-40 to approve the legislation, which allows the Maryland Department of the Environment to issue permits for natural gas drilling in the Marcellus Shale only if applicants can demonstrate that their drilling would not negatively impact public health.
