Simpson Thacher Reps Arch Coal In $3.4B ICG Buy

Law360, New York (May 2, 2011, 1:07 PM EDT) -- Mining company Arch Coal Inc. said Monday it would buy International Coal Group Inc. for $3.4 billion in an all-cash deal that will make it one of the world's top five coal producers and marketers.

The transaction will also make St. Louis-based Arch the second-largest U.S. producer of steel-making component metallurgical coal, expand the company's reach in international markets for that material, diversify Arch's supply portfolio and extend its operations into every major coal-producing basin in the country, the buyer said.
