SmartMetrics Concedes In AmEx Card Patent Suit

Law360, New York (June 17, 2011, 3:12 PM EDT) -- American Express Co. on Thursday won a stipulation of noninfringement from SmartMetric Inc. in a California case alleging the credit card giant infringed a patent for contactless card systems.

The two sides filed the stipulation just a month after U.S. District Judge Jacqueline H. Nguyen adopted verbatim American Express's proposed construction of the key claim term in the case, essentially putting an end to SmartMetric's suit.
