BP Loses Bid For Obama Aides’ Emails

Law360, New York (July 20, 2011, 4:57 PM ET) -- A Louisiana federal judge in the BP PLC oil spill multidistrict litigation on Wednesday denied the oil giant’s bid to compel the office of President Barack Obama to surrender emails from four aides that discussed the government’s response to the Deepwater Horizon disaster.

“BP has not made a sufficient demonstration of need for the documents,” U.S. Magistrate Judge Sally Shushan said, but noted that the government will still produce certain communications between the Executive Office and various agencies during discovery.
