Law360, New York (August 01, 2011, 1:10 PM ET) -- A California federal judge ruled Thursday that the film “Death at a Funeral” was not based on a Los Angeles woman's memoir, releasing star Chris Rock, producer Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. and others from a $20 million copyright infringement suit.
U.S. District Judge Stephen V. Wilson granted the defendants summary judgment, finding that plaintiff Pamella Lawrence could not back up her infringement claims, and dismissing her related state law claims of fraud and breach of contract for lack of subject matter jurisdiction.
