Apple, Samsung, Others Sued Over Mobile Data Patent

Law360, New York (December 05, 2011, 5:05 PM ET) -- Texas-based Garnet Digital LLC on Friday sued most of the major players in the smartphone industry, including Apple Inc., Samsung Electronics America Inc. and Research in Motion Corp., for allegedly infringing a patent covering technology to access information from a remote database.

In a complaint filed in the Eastern District of Texas, Garnet claims the smartphone makers infringe U.S. Patent Number 5,379,421, titled "Interactive terminal for the access of remote database information."
