UK Moves To Modernize Copyright Laws

Law360, New York (December 14, 2011, 6:30 PM EST) -- The U.K. revealed its plan Wednesday to update its copyright system for the digital economy, including creating an exception for parodies, limited private copying rights and a licensing process for so-called orphan works.

The proposal, which will be open for public comment until March 21, is designed to modernize the country's copyright system to eliminate unnecessary barriers to economic growth, the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills said Wednesday.
