EMI Royalty Suit Adds To Grooveshark Owner's Legal Woes

Law360, New York (January 5, 2012, 8:23 PM EST) -- EMI Entertainment World Inc. slapped Escape Media Group Inc. — which owns the online music service Grooveshark — with a contract lawsuit Wednesday in New York claiming that Escape won't cough up the royalties it owes EMI under a 2009 licensing pact.

Escape Media — which is already the target of copyright litigation brought in federal court by UMG Recordings Inc., Sony Music Entertainment and Warner Bros Records Inc. — was sued by EMI in New York state court.
