NY Construction Union Favored White Workers: Suit

Law360, New York (January 24, 2012, 5:05 PM EST) -- A group of minority operating engineers launched a proposed class action Monday against a New York construction workers union that allegedly doled out its highest-paying work assignments to nonminority members.

Plaintiff Averil Morrison, an African-American union member, alleges that the 1,200-member International Union of Operating Engineers Local 14-14B, AFL-CIO, broke first-come, first-serve assignment procedures by giving assignments on the best projects only to selected white workers.
