Law360, Washington (January 30, 2012, 5:38 PM ET) -- AstraZeneca AB sued Torrent Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in New Jersey federal court on Friday, alleging the generic-drug company's application to market a generic acid reflux treatment infringes three patents that cover AstraZeneca's blockbuster Nexium.
The generics maker filed an abbreviated new drug application for time-released esomeprazole magnesium tablets with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in December, claiming the unexpired Nexium patents are unenforceable or won't be infringed by the generic treatment with the same active ingredient.
