Hutchison Whampoa Dials Up $1.7B Austrian Mobile Co. Deal

Law360, New York (February 3, 2012, 1:12 PM EST) -- A unit of Hutchison Whampoa Ltd. on Friday agreed to purchase cellphone service provider Orange Austria Telecommunication GmbH from France Telecom SA and private equity firm Mid Europa Partners for about €1.3 billion ($1.71 billion), the Hong Kong-based conglomerate announced Friday.

France Telecom currently holds a 35 percent stake in Orange Austria and Mid Europa controls 65 percent of the mobile operator.
