Law360, New York (March 08, 2012, 6:34 PM ET) -- A New York federal judge on Thursday set a back wage amount of $128.7 million in a class action brought by minority firefighter applicants who said New York City's fire department entry tests were discriminatory.
The ruling comes during the remedial phase of a successful suit against the city brought by the U.S. Department of Justice and intervening plaintiff Vulcan Society Inc., which claimed the city's firefighter entrance exams denied jobs to more than 1,000 black and Hispanic applicants.
