Pa. Regulators Approve Noncoal Mining Fee Hike

Law360, Philadelphia (August 16, 2012, 3:53 PM EDT) -- After originally rejecting the measure in June, a Pennsylvania regulatory review commission reversed course Thursday and approved increased fees for noncoal mining operations expected to raise millions for the state.

The Independent Regulatory Review Commission approved the increased fees during a meeting Thursday morning, conceding an argument by the state Department of Environmental Protection that the amount of fees to be raised was roughly equivalent to the cost of regulating the state’s noncoal mining operations.
