NHTSA Probes Nissan Versas Over Airbag Issue

Law360, New York (August 17, 2012, 3:21 PM EDT) -- The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened an investigation Wednesday into a possible cable assembly defect in Nissan North America Inc.'s model year 2012 Versa cars that could prevent their air bags from deploying.

The NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation received field report data from the automaker showing that the cars' spiral cable assembly had been discovered pinched in the steering column. If the cable is damaged, the air bag may not deploy, the agency said.
