Pa. High Court Shouldn't Join Philly Labor Row, Unions Say

Law360, Philadelphia (February 20, 2013, 6:16 PM EST) -- Attorneys for nearly 1 million Pennsylvania public sector employees asked the state Supreme Court on Tuesday to decline to exercise extraordinary jurisdiction over a suit in which Philadelphia seeks court approval to implement a contract with its largest municipal workers' union.

The unions are challenging a move by Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter that asks the high court to take immediate jurisdiction through the use of its King's Bench powers, saying three of the city's four largest labor unions have been without contracts since 2009.
