Half Of US Cos. Seek Bulk Of Patents Abroad, Report Finds

Law360, New York (April 29, 2013, 4:55 PM ET) -- Half of companies from the U.S. are now filing the majority of their patent applications overseas, as worldwide patent protection becomes increasingly important, a study released Monday said.

Inovia LLC, a provider of foreign filing platforms, surveyed 125 companies in January about their patent filing activities for its annual Global Patent & IP Trends Indicator. It found that 50 percent of respondents said they filed more than half of their patent applications overseas in 2012.
