Cuomo Won't OK Women's Work Bill Without Abortion Reform

Law360, New York (June 17, 2013, 5:33 PM EDT) -- A New York Senate legislative leader proposed women's workplace equality legislation Monday that makes no mention of abortion, the sticking point that has confounded efforts to pass reform backed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, but the governor swiftly ruled out the substitute, saying, "It doesn't have choice."

The legislation introduced by Bronx Democrat Jeff Klein, the leader of a bloc of Independent Democrats that shares power with pro-life Senate Republicans, would address paycheck equality, outlaw sexual harassment in all workplaces and extend maternity leave.
