Tobacco Case A Contender For Supreme Court Review

Law360, New York (February 6, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- If recent history is any guide, the U.S. Supreme Court will likely take up calls by the tobacco industry to hear debate on the high-stakes issue of mass tort punitive damages, and will do so with a sympathetic ear.

Buoyed by the success of last year's high court challenge, which resulted in the reconsideration of an Oregon state jury's $79.5 million punitive damages award, the tobacco companies have petitioned the justices to hear another case.
