ITC Asks Fed. Circ. To Affirm UPI Import Ban Fine

Law360, New York (August 26, 2013, 8:08 PM ET) -- The U.S. International Trade Commission responded Friday to uPI Semiconductor Corp.'s bid to have the Federal Circuit overturn a fine the company was assessed for purportedly violating a stipulated import ban on patent-infringing electronics, saying the penalties were backed by substantial evidence.

The ITC asked the appeals court to affirm the assessment of a $540,000 civil penalty against Taiwan-based uPI for "knowingly aiding and abetting" the importation of products into the U.S. containing DC-DC power controllers that infringe patents held by Richtek Technology Corp.
