Emera Inks Deal To Buy New England Plants For $541M

Law360, Los Angeles (August 28, 2013, 6:01 PM EDT) -- Nova Scotia-based energy company Emera Inc. has entered an agreement to purchase three combined-cycle gas-fired electricity generation facilities in New England from Capital Power Corp. for $541 million, the companies announced Wednesday.

Emera says the transaction, which includes certain emissions credits, will add 1,050 megawatts to its generation capacity in the Northeast. The facilities are Bridgeport Energy, a 520-megawatt power station in Bridgeport, Conn., that has been operational since 1999; Tiverton Power, a 265-megawatt power station in Tiverton, R.I., that has been operational since 2000; and...
