NBC Wins Toss Of 'Animal Practice' Copyright Suit

Law360, Los Angeles (September 06, 2013, 9:52 PM ET) -- A California federal judge threw out a copyright infringement suit Friday against NBC Universal over its short-lived veterinarian-themed sitcom “Animal Practice,” saying an attorney who wrote a treatment for another animal-themed show didn’t prove the works were substantially similar.

U.S. District Judge Beverly Reid O’Connell granted NBC Universal’s motion to dismiss the suit, saying the allegedly similar themes in “Animal Practice” and attorney Paul Andre’s treatment for “PETS” were shared among most comedic shows on television.
