Strippers Are Employees, Not Contractors, Judge Says

Law360, New York (September 10, 2013, 8:31 PM ET) -- Former exotic dancers at Manhattan strip club Rick's Cabaret who brought a minimum wage class and collective action against club operator Peregrine Enterprises Inc. were employees, not independent contractors as Peregrine had argued, a New York federal judge ruled Tuesday.

U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer ruled that the plaintiffs were employees of the midtown Manhattan club and that Peregrine was their employer, but denied the dancers summary judgment on claims against parent companies Rick's Cabaret International Inc. and RCI Entertainment (New York) Inc., leaving the question...
