Sierra Club Urges Fla. Governor To Buy US Sugar Land

Law360, Miami (September 24, 2013, 6:39 PM ET) -- The Sierra Club of Florida asked Gov. Rick Scott on Monday to complete the purchase of 153,000 acres of land owned by U.S. Sugar Corp. before the government's exclusive option to buy expires next month in order to help restore the Everglades.

In a letter sent to the governor, the environmental group said that if the state allows the option to expire Oct. 12, the government will have to pay market prices for the land and compete with other buyers.
