Court Should Break Up Bazaarvoice Monopoly, DOJ Says

Law360, San Francisco (October 15, 2013, 8:09 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Justice urged a California federal judge Tuesday to reverse the merger of rival ratings-and-review software companies Bazaarvoice Inc. and PowerReviews Inc., arguing at the close of an antitrust bench trial that the $168.2 million tie-up created an illegal monopoly.

The DOJ's Antitrust Division is seeking a complete divestiture of the PowerReviews assets Bazaarvoice acquired in the buyout, arguing that doing so is the only way to restore competition in the e-commerce ratings-and-reviews marketplace.
