Senate OKs $1.5B Bill Funding Children's Hospital Teaching

Law360, New York (November 13, 2013, 1:30 PM EST) -- The U.S. Senate passed a $1.5 billion measure Tuesday reauthorizing Medicare payments for graduate medical education at freestanding children’s hospitals for five years and opening up funding to psychiatric institutions for the first time.

The bill would extend the Children’s Hospital Graduate Medical Education program, in which unaffiliated children’s hospitals receive subsidies for their residency programs. The program is similar to the funding other teaching hospitals receive through Medicare.
