Enviro Group Loses Bid To Block $5.4B Highway Project

Law360, New York (January 21, 2014, 7:51 PM EST) -- An Alabama federal judge on Friday refused to grant an environmental group's request to halt construction of a $5.4 billion highway project, ruling that the federal government properly evaluated potential damage to wildlife and water resources when it approved the project's first segment.

U.S. District Judge W. Keith Watkins said that Black Warrior Riverkeeper failed to show that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers improperly divided the 50-mile highway project into sections in order to skirt environmental regulations, denying the group's preliminary injunction bid.
