Environmentalists Claim Victory Over LNG Facility

Law360, New York (April 11, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- When New York decided not to approve the proposed Broadwater Energy LLC liquefied natural gas terminal earlier this month, environmentalists claimed victory in their three-and-a-half-year battle against the project.

Adrienne Esposito, the executive director of Citizens Campaign for the Environment, acknowledged that Broadwater could still appeal the decision to the U.S. Department of Commerce.

She added, however, that it was extremely unlikely the Commerce Department would overrule the state.

“[Broadwater] should really just cut their losses and leave,” Esposito said. “They've lost. It's over.”
