Google Resolves Spat Over Internet Phone Service

Law360, New York (April 4, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Google Inc. has reached a settlement with a small patent-holding firm, which sued the popular search engine for infringing patents for voice over internet protocol (VoIP) technology.

Both Google and the New York-based Rates Technology Inc. decided the case should be dismissed. Details of the settlement were not disclosed.

Last October, RTI lodged a complaint that Google used its VoIP technology in its Google Talk product, which allows users to talk through a headset or instant message audio communications over their computers for free. The suit...
